Recent Sexual Abuse Cases Involving KVC

Children placed in foster care or residential programs should be protected from harm, not exposed to further abuse.

Monsees & Mayer represents survivors of childhood sexual abuse whose lives were changed by abuse that occurred while they were receiving services through KVC or placed in a KVC-supported foster home.

Our attorneys understand the complexity of these cases, including the responsibility organizations may have for protecting children in their care, screening and supervising employees and foster parents, responding to warning signs, and taking action when abuse is reported.

We represent clients in cases involving sexual abuse by both KVC employees and foster parents affiliated with KVC.

When Sexual Abuse Happens While a Child Is in Foster Care or Residential Treatment

Children placed in foster homes, residential treatment facilities, and other forms of institutional care depend on the adults and organizations responsible for them to provide a safe environment.

When sexual abuse occurs, determining who may be legally responsible can be complicated. Depending on the circumstances, a case may involve questions about:

  • Whether appropriate screening and background checks were conducted
  • Whether employees or foster parents were properly trained and supervised
  • Whether warning signs or prior misconduct were ignored
  • Whether appropriate safeguards were in place to protect vulnerable children
  • How the organization responded after concerns or allegations were reported
  • Whether the organization fulfilled its legal responsibilities to the child

At Monsees & Mayer, we take the time to investigate what happened. Not only during the abuse itself, but also the events leading up to it and the organization’s response afterward.

You Don’t Have to Face It Alone

If you or someone you love experienced sexual abuse while in foster care, residential treatment, or another child-serving program, you may have questions about whether you can pursue a civil claim.

The attorneys at Monsees & Mayer represent survivors of childhood sexual abuse and can help you understand your legal options.
