Our hearts go out to the family of these two toddlers. In today’s era, where both parents are required to work to support their family, we must entrust the care and safety of our children to others at times. A notification such as this is something none of us ever want to receive.
Currently, there is no mention of negligence. However, as parent we have questions in the back of our mind. Why were the two toddlers left unsupervised for any length of time near a pool? Did the pool have any safety devices in place for children, especially since this was a daycare setting, and if so why were they not in place? Swimming accidents are one of the leading causes of deaths in children 1 – 5 years old. The American Red Cross provides Safety Guidelines for residential pool owners in an attempt to prevent accidents like this from happening.
