How long have you worked at Monsees & Mayer? Within the legal profession?

I have worked for Monsees & Mayer, P.C. for seven years, and as of this April, will have practiced law for 13 years.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the legal industry?

I am a Kansas City native and have lived on “both sides of the railroad tracks.” Experiencing the stark contrast in resources and opportunity had a profound impact on me. I felt a strong duty to help the disadvantaged, and that sense of duty led me to become an attorney. Many attorneys help the disadvantaged from time to time. Some never do. I chose employment discrimination because that is at the core of it and my essential function. It’s not an afterthought for me.

What do you love most about your job?

Our field touches almost everything, from everyday life to cutting edge science, and I love that this job involves constant learning. But more than anything, I love fighting for my clients, and seeing the look of relief and elation in their eyes when they have finally received justice.

What would you say is the highlight of your career thus far?

The highlight of my career actually happened when I was just a few years out of law school. I represented a good friend in a legal malpractice case – pursuing claims against a seasoned lawyer represented by the best. Simply put, it was audacious to take on such a case with my lack of experience. But I held my own, we obtained a favorable outcome for my friend and from then on knew I could handle anything this profession might throw at me.

If there was one thing you would want clients or future clients to know about the Monsees & Mayer team, what would it be?

This team is completely dedicated to our clients. Many law firms say they are, but at the end of the day, they are driven by profits above all else. Not us, not here. We fight first and foremost for our clients and let the chips fall where they may.
