Sexual Assault Awareness Month

It’s unfortunate that we must designate Sexual Assault Awareness Month to shine a light on something that should never happen—but the reality is, sexual assault remains a widespread and devastating epidemic. Each April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month serves as a vital reminder of how far we still have to go to protect victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and foster a culture of prevention and healing.

Statistics show just how urgent this issue is:

  • 1 in 6 women have survived an attempted or completed rape in their lifetimes.
  • Over 17.7 million women have experienced rape since 1998.
  • Nearly 99% of perpetrators of sexual violence walk free.
  • 7 out of 10 rapes are committed by someone the victim knows.
  • 93% of child sexual abuse perpetrators are known to the victim.
  • 13% of female rape survivors attempt suicide.
  • Sexual violence costs the U.S. up to $750 billion annually in damages.

At Monsees & Mayer, we believe Sexual Assault Awareness Month should be more than a campaign—it should be a call to action. This month, we are:

  • Launching a digital education series to raise awareness
  • Partnering with Donutology to support local survivor organizations
  • Publishing new resources and blog content to inform the public
  • Offering free, confidential consultations for survivors
  • Advocating for legislative change to protect victim rights

Awareness is only the first step. We must work together to support survivors, prevent abuse, and demand justice. If you or someone you love has been impacted by sexual violence, Monsees & Mayer is here to help. Contact our team today for compassionate legal support grounded in experience, advocacy, and trust.

Let’s make Sexual Assault Awareness Month the start of real change.
