Polo, MO (January 08, 2020) – Two teenagers from the city of Polo died and three more were critically injured on Sunday, January 5th at around 7:15 p.m. when their car went off the road on Southern Caldwell County Road and flipped over.
According to police reports, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling east along Price Drive when a patch of gravel caused the tires to lose traction. The car skidded off the lefthand side of the roadway and careened into a ditch. The car then became airborne, crashed through a fence, and flipped over two times before coming to a stop on its roof.
The Caldwell County Coroner pronounced two of the occupants, both 14-year-old boys, dead at the scene.
Also injured during the fatal accident, was another 14-year-old boy from Polo. He was transported by medical helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City with critical injuries.
The driver of the car has been identified as, Harley Sammons, 18, a resident of Plattsburg who was also was transported to Liberty Hospital with injuries classified as moderate.
One more passenger, Seth Pate, 20, also a resident of Polo, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to North Kanas City Hospital.
