Ottawa, KS (January 27, 2020) – A car accident that took place on Wednesday, January 22nd resulted in the death of two people in Franklin County, about eight miles east of Ottawa.
The victims have since been identified as 67-year-old James Tracy and 14-year-old Harry Mock Jr., both residents of Rantoul, Kansas.
Tracy and Mock were in a car heading eastbound along Kansas Highway 68 at around 7:15 a.m. when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, Tracy lost control of his 1998 Volkswagen Passat and ran into a steel guardrail.
The Volkswagen then swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic where a Ford Explorer collided with the passenger side. Both vehicles came to a stop in the middle of the road.
Tracy and Mock were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ford, driven by Erica Loriene Drinkard, 40, a resident of Paola, sustained injury. She was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment.
All three victims were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victims, Mr. James Tracy and Mr. Harry Mock, at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family in hopes of a full recovery.
Car Accidents in Ottawa
It is almost inevitable that, at some point in your life, you will be involved in a car accident. Each year, there are roughly 6 million car crashes in the United States, and more than 3 million victims endure car accident-related injuries. Approximately 30,000 car accident-related fatalities occur each year in just Missouri and Kansas.
If you or a member of your family have recently been injured during a car accident, you have most likely already been the recipient of letters or phone calls from an insurance adjuster. They will stop at nothing to get you to give a recorded statement, sign a medical release form, or even attempt to get you to accept an insultingly low settlement offer. A lot of insurance adjusters will even try to discourage car accident victims from talking to an attorney and urge you to handle your personal injury claim all on your own.
Of course, none of these things are to your benefit, and you should never take the advice of anyone from the insurance company before speaking with an experienced attorney about your case. No matter what they say to you, the insurance adjuster of the negligent driver does not have your best interests at heart. To them, you are nothing more than a liability.
Our Missouri personal injury attorneys understand the legal system, Missouri traffic laws, and how to deal with big insurance companies that would otherwise try to bully you into a smaller settlement.
