Kansas City, MO (February 17, 2020) – An elderly driver, identified as Rex Karnes, 84, began driving southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 29 before crashing into at least two other cars just north of Northwest 64th Street on Saturday, February 15th.
Officers from the Missouri Highway Patrol were dispatched to the crash site at approximately 7:45 a.m. in the morning where they discovered a 2019 Ford F150, driven by Karnes, had collided head-on with a 2017 Chevy Equinox being driven by Rafael Villalobos, 34, of Kansas City. Villalobos was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Kansas City Hospital by Kansas City Fire Dept. His 21-year-old passenger sustained only minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
Karnes was also seriously injured in the crash and was transported to Liberty Hospital for additional treatment.
Preliminary police reports indicated that several vehicles were involved in the collision.
Our thoughts are with all of the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Head-On Collisions in Kansas City
Head-on collisions are a serious issue that many states are being forced to deal with on a regular basis. Missouri is no different.
These dangerous, brutal, and violent accidents account for more than half of all motor vehicle-related fatalities in the United States. They are, unquestioningly, the most destructive type of car crash a person can endure.
Despite the impressive technological advances that the car manufacturing industry seems to be making in recent years, all of which are designed to decrease the number of instances in which a life is needlessly lost, head-on collisions continue to be the leading cause of fatal accident-related injuries and leave those lucky enough to survive financially, physically and emotionally destroyed.
Our Missouri personal injury attorneys understand the legal system, Missouri traffic laws, and how to deal with big insurance companies that would otherwise try to bully you into a smaller settlement.
