Kansas City, MO (December 30, 2019) – A bicyclist was hit by a car on Tuesday, December 24th. The victim, who suffered a number of injuries including severe brain damage, has since been identified as Pablo Sanders Jr.
An update to this story here.
According to Kansas City Police, the man was riding his bike in the area of Valentine Road and Southwest Trafficway shortly before 12:00 a.m. when a car headed northbound hit him from behind.
A local news source reported that the car did have a green light when it struck the cyclist. Although the driver attempted to avoid the cyclist, the left front portion of the car still made contact.
The rider was wearing his helmet when the accident occurred but it is believed that the helmet came off during the accident. The driver of the car was not arrested or cited and remained at the scene to fully cooperate with the police.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, Mr. Pablo Sanders, Jr., and his family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
Bicycle Accidents in Kansas City
Every year, thousands of people become injured in car accidents. When that car accident involves a bicyclist, the risk for injuries becomes greater for the rider involved. This is because bicyclists have little to no protection against a much larger and heavier automobile and therefore the bicyclist is usually on the losing end of the stick with regard to injuries. Riders have very little protective gear to ensure their safety on the roadways.
To ensure that both parties understand their rights and are protected fairly it is always recommended to speak with a skilled personal injury lawyer who has experience handling the complexities that come with a bike accident claim. Your Missouri bicycle accident attorney will need to pay close attention to the jury selection process as well as adequately approach the common bias against the operator of the motor vehicle that was involved.
Our skilled and knowledgeable Missouri personal injury attorneys have a thorough understanding of the state’s legal system, all applicable traffic laws, and know the best way to deal with big insurance companies that would otherwise try to bully you into a smaller settlement.
