Jasper, MO (April 5, 2020) – One man was left with serious injuries after a motor vehicle accident late Thursday evening.

At around 11:10 p.m., on April 2nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of an auto accident on Highway 96.

Reports indicate that 47-year-old Robert Downing was traveling down Highway 96 on a 2005 Triumph Rocket 3 motorcycle. As Downing traveled along the highway, 19-year-old Makayla Spaugy pulled out onto the road in a 2010 Ford Expedition and struck his vehicle just four miles east of Carthage.

Downing was injured in the collision. He was subsequently transported via EMS to Mercy Hospital of Joplin for further medical treatment.

At this time, MHP is investigating.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Robert Downing at this time.
